Workflow runs are free. You only use credits when a successful run completes an action that has a credit cost. Most workflow steps are free, including triggers, conditions, branches, filters, waits, contact updates, and labels. This means a workflow can run without using any credits if it does not complete a paid action.

Flat-cost actions

These actions have a fixed cost each time the step finishes: Each occurrence of a finished step is charged once. If the same action appears twice and both steps finish, both are charged.

Send message actions

Message actions are charged for each message sent. An AI-generated message adds 3 credits to the channel’s base cost. Inbound messages do not use credits.

Voice Agent Call actions

A Voice Agent Call action uses 6 credits per minute. The charge is based on the call’s duration. Regular voice calls are not a workflow action. Outside workflows, regular voice calls use 1 credit per minute. See How credits work for non-workflow rates.

What costs nothing

The following do not use credits:
  • Starting or running a workflow
  • Triggers
  • Conditions, branches, and filters
  • Waits and delays
  • Creating or updating a contact
  • Updating contact fields or inbox assignment
  • Adding labels
  • Any other step not listed as a paid action above
Only steps that finish are included in the calculation. If the entire workflow run fails or is cancelled, the run uses 0 credits, even if some steps finished before it stopped.

Example calculation

Suppose a five-step workflow:
  1. Starts when a contact is updated
  2. Checks a condition
  3. Waits for a time window
  4. Updates a contact field
  5. Sends a non-AI SMS
The trigger, condition, wait, and contact update are free. The SMS costs 2 credits, so one successful run uses 2 credits total. If the run fails or is cancelled, it uses 0 credits. To see the credit usage for each workflow and run, go to Settings > Billing. For rates outside workflows, see How credits work.
