# Test and go live

> Preview a template as different stays, trace which check-in steps a stay gets, open test links on your phone, and see which changes reach portals already sent.

## Preview as

In the template editor, **Preview as** sets the stay the **Customer preview** shows: **Listing**, **Subunit**, **Booking channel**, **Booking created**, **Nights**, **Guests**, **Pets**, **Returning contact**, **Check-in complete** and **Sample data**. It lists the check-in steps that stay gets. ADR prices use a sample nightly rate of 75.

## Sandbox

**Preview** in the template editor, or **Test in sandbox** in a rule, opens the sandbox. It uses the saved template, plus the rule draft when you open it from the rule editor. Needs **See Portals Page**.

* Set the stay: **Template**, **Listing**, **Booking channel**, **Reservation source**, **Nights**, **Check-in day**, **Booking created**, **Booked ahead**, **Returning contact** and **Check-in complete**
* **Rule trace** shows each rule as **Matched** or **Skipped**, with the reason
* **Preview on your phone** shows a QR code and link for a test portal. It needs **Manage Portals**, and isn't available when you open the sandbox with **Test in sandbox**

## Test links

**Create test link** in the template editor makes a link from the saved template, for a **Contact** and, if you want, one of their reservations or a listing. It needs **Manage Portals**, and saved changes.

* Test links expire after 24 hours
* They show **Test portal. Payments run in Stripe test mode.** with **Reset progress**
* Deposits, required fees, waiver payments and request holds can't be paid on a test link
* They don't start workflows, notifications or inbox cards, don't send receipts, and don't save contact details or guest counts
* On a real reservation, a test link shows live reservation details, so share it only with your team

## What reaches portals already sent

| Change | Portals already sent |
| - | - |
| Check-in steps | Yes, within a few minutes. Steps a guest started stay as they were. Finished check-ins, stays past checkout and test links don't change |
| Portal fields | Yes |
| Offer edits | Yes. Archiving an offer hides it everywhere |
| Template, including the check-in survey | Yes, within a few minutes of saving. Check-in steps, bought offers and offers the AI agent added stay |
| Guides | Yes, the next time the guest opens the portal |
| Brand kit | The next time the template is saved. Receipts and submission PDFs use the current logo and contact details right away |
| Defaults: **Templates** | No |
| Defaults: **Check-in**, **Discover**, **Reviews** | Yes |
| Defaults: **Payments** | Receipts and Track folio, yes. The rest the next time the template is saved |
| Custom domain | Links generated after it's active use it, including links sent again |
| Workflows | Time-based triggers skip send times that already passed. With **Run for all reservations** on, bookings synced within 24 hours of being made and reservations confirmed later still get them |

## Go live

1. Finish setup: check-in steps, portal fields, offers on an active template that's the default in Defaults, and published guides
2. Test with **Preview as**, the sandbox and a test link
3. Turn on **Auto-create portals** in [Defaults](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/defaults.md#templates). To create portals for reservations you already have, contact Conduit support. Creating portals doesn't send anything
4. Map your locks so every upcoming stay has a door code. See [Devices](https://docs.conduit.ai/setup/tools-and-integrations/devices.md)
5. Publish the workflows that [send the link](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/sending-portal-links.md). For bookings whose send time already passed, use **Run > Schedule run** on the workflow
6. Turn on the AI agent's [Get Portal](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/sending-portal-links.md#through-the-ai-agent) tool
