# Guest portals

> Give every reservation one link for check-in steps, stay details, door codes, offers, guides, payments and a rating after checkout.

A portal is one link per reservation. Guests use it to finish check-in steps like an ID check and agreements, see stay details and door codes, buy or request offers, read guides, pay, message you and rate their stay after checkout.

## Add Portals to your workspace

Portals is an add-on. **Portals** sits under **Operations** in the sidebar, and workspaces without the add-on see **Book a demo** there. **Settings > Billing** lists Portals under **Add-ons**, marked **On** once it's on.

## Permissions

Five permissions sit under **Portals** in **Settings > Members > Roles and permissions**:

| Permission | What it allows |
| - | - |
| **See Portals Page** | Portals in the sidebar, its pages and the sandbox |
| **Manage Portals** | Templates, check-in steps, offers, guides, the brand kit, Defaults, custom domains and test links |
| **Manage Submissions** | Submissions, ID review, waiving and resetting steps, ID upload, Requests, and disabling a guest's portal |
| **View Portal Transactions** | Transactions, analytics and exports |
| **Manage Portal Payments** | Stripe, payment routing, refunds, receipts, deposit actions and an offer's **Payment account** |

Admin has all five. New workspaces give Member **See Portals Page**, **Manage Portals** and **Manage Submissions**, and Other **See Portals Page**. [Portal fields](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/portal-fields.md) need **See Properties Page** to view and **Manage Properties** to edit.

## How a reservation gets a portal

* With **Auto-create portals** on in [Defaults](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/defaults.md#templates), every booked reservation gets a portal when it syncs
* Without it, a portal is created the first time someone uses **Copy portal link** or **Generate portal** on the reservation, a workflow sends **Conduit Portal Link**, or the AI agent uses **Get Portal**
* Inquiries, booking requests and cancelled, declined, expired and pending reservations don't get portals
* Creating a portal doesn't send it. See [Sending portal links](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/sending-portal-links.md)
* Links look like `https://portals.conduit.ai/p/...`, or use your [custom domain](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/custom-domains.md)
* A link works until 30 days after checkout. Cancelling the reservation ends it straight away
* **Disable portal**, in the **Portal** section's menu, ends access through every link for that reservation and revokes its device access. **Reactivate portal** turns the links back on but doesn't restore device access

## What guests see

The portal has **Stay**, **Discover** and **Chat** tabs, plus **Cart** while the cart has items.

* **Stay**: check-in steps, stay details like Wi-Fi and door codes, offers, guides and receipts. After checkout, a thank-you page with a rating card and after-checkout offers
* **Discover**: offers by category, and Viator experiences when they're on
* **Chat**: messages arrive in your inbox on the Portal channel, and the AI agent answers them like any other channel
* The portal opens in the guest's browser language when it's English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Arabic. **Change language** switches it, and text is machine-translated
