# Guides

> Write house manuals, how-tos and local recommendations that show in the portal for the listings you pick.

Guides show on the portal's Stay page for the listings they target. Every published guide that matches a stay shows on that stay's portal. Templates can't pick or hide guides.

## Create a guide

Needs **Manage Portals**.

1. Go to **Portals > Guides** and click **New guide**
2. Fill in the **Title**, plus a **Description**, **Category** and **Cover image** if you want. Guests see all four
3. Add content under **Content** with **Add block**
4. Under **Visibility**, set **Status**, **Listings** and **Visible to guests**
5. Click **Create guide**

New guides start as **Draft**. Only **Published** guides reach portals.

## Blocks

| Block | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Text** | A paragraph, with an optional heading |
| **Place** | A place nearby: your one line, type, price band, distance, hours, tags, address and phone, with buttons for directions, booking and website |
| **Tip** | A callout: **Info**, **Tip**, **Warning** or **Danger** |
| **List** | Bulleted or numbered items, up to 20 |
| **Facts** | Label and value rows, or a schedule, up to 12 |
| **Photos** | One photo with pins, a gallery or numbered steps, up to 12 |
| **Embed** | A YouTube or Vimeo video, an uploaded MP4 or WebM up to 50 MB, a link to a PDF, or a Matterport tour |
| **Action** | A button that opens a link, like a booking page. A price on it is text only |
| **Contact** | People guests can call, text or WhatsApp, up to 8 |

* A guide holds up to 100 blocks
* Images can be JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF, up to 10 MB
* Guides don't take variables and show the same text on every stay they target. Per-listing details like Wi-Fi and door codes are [portal fields](https://docs.conduit.ai/portals/portal-fields.md)

## Visibility

| Setting | Options |
| - | - |
| **Status** | **Draft**, **Published** or **Archived** |
| **Listings** | **All listings**, or **Specific listings** with **Individual listings** and **Listing groups** |
| **Visible to guests** | **Always**. **Before check-in**: from a set time before check-in (2 hours by default) until checkout. **After check-in is complete**: once the guest has finished every check-in step, including an approved ID |

* Guides disappear after checkout
* Changes reach portals already sent the next time the guest opens them
* A portal shows up to 100 guides

## Order and categories

* **Manage categories** sets the sections guides are grouped into on the portal, and their order. Up to 50
* Uncategorized guides show last, under **More**
* The up and down arrows on a guide move it within its category
* More than 5 guides on a portal collapse behind **See all**

## Publish, archive and delete

From a guide's **...** menu:

* **Publish** or **Move to draft**
* **Duplicate** makes a draft copy, with "copy" after the title
* **Archive** hides the guide from portals. **Unarchive** brings it back as a draft
* **Delete permanently** works on archived guides only and can't be undone

## What guests see

* Guides show on the Stay page under **Guides**, as tiles grouped by category
* Guide text is translated into the guest's language. Place names, addresses and contact names stay as written
* **Ask** at the end of a guide opens the portal chat
* Guides aren't in the knowledge base, so the AI agent can't answer from them
