# Tasks overview

> Create, update, and track Operations tasks over the REST API.

Use the task endpoints to read and manage the tasks on your Operations task list. The workspace must have Operations enabled.

## Statuses

Each workspace defines its own task statuses. To set or filter by status, use the status `id` from [List task statuses](https://docs.conduit.ai/api-reference/tasks/list-statuses.md). Each status has a `category` (`upcoming`, `in_progress`, `review`, `completed`, `canceled`, `needs_approval`, or `other`). A task is done when its status category is `completed`.

## Quick start

Create a task:

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://api.conduit.ai/v1/tasks \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "workspace_id": "YOUR_WORKSPACE_ID",
    "title": "Replace AC filter in unit 4B",
    "due_at": "2026-11-05T15:00:00Z"
  }'
```

Move it to another status:

```bash theme={null}
curl -X PATCH "https://api.conduit.ai/v1/tasks/TASK_ID?workspace_id=YOUR_WORKSPACE_ID" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "status_id": "STATUS_ID" }'
```

New tasks start in the workspace's default status unless you pass `status_id`. Times use ISO 8601 with a timezone offset or `Z`.
